Brief HistoryFunding for this service was originally provided through the Youth Supported Accommodation Program, which was a sub-program of the Commonwealth/State funded Supported Accommodation Assistance Programme (SAAP). From 2009, funding continues to be provided through the National Affordable Housing Agreement (NAHA). [For notes on this program see the section on NAHA/SAAP at the beginning of Signposts].
Crossroads West was awarded this contract after the closure of the Golden Mile Youth Hostel in 1999. Crossroads West – Kalgoorlie Boulder Youth Accommodation Service was located in the same building as the old Golden Mile Youth Hostel in Millen St, Boulder.
In 2002 the Crossroads West funding agreement with the Department describes the service as providing crisis accommodation for young people for up to three months. People receiving accommodation are provided with support planning to assist them to move to more stable long term accommodation.
In 2003 Crossroads West moved from the Millen St property to a new building at 10 Park Street, Kalgoorlie.
The service has the capacity to accommodate up to fifteen young people in crisis. (Service Agreement with the Department for Child Protection).
