Independent Order of Oddfellows Orphanage
Years of OperationThis facility was mentioned in the Department’s Annual Reports from 1935 to 1940 but no other information is available.
Brief HistoryFrom 1935 to 1940, the Annual Reports of the Child Welfare Department showed the Independent Order of Oddfellows Orphanage as being licensed to care for children under six years of age, who were not on a Departmental subsidy. The number of children reported in each of these years in this category was:
1935: 1 child; 1936: 6 children; 1937: 3 children; 1938-40: 1 child in each year.
RecordsNo records are known to exist, however the Battye Library is always a good starting place for information about Western Australian history.
The Department for Child Protection and Family Support may have information about people who believe they were residents of the Orphanage.
The Independent Order of Oddfellows still exists as an organisation, but no longer operates a residential child care facility. It is unknown whether they hold any relevant records.
